Alot of dust in the ATTIC........

I closed my shop down for a bit the last month of so due to all that had been happening in my personal life from the car accident and my grandmothers illness.

JANUARY ~ I'M BACK OPEN!

I have been getting busy with some last minute details on some new dolls. I went a bit "grungier" then I usually do on a few of them. The mood struck and it seemed to work:)
I am hoping they will bring smiles to your faces.

Also been working on some surprises! heehee
Look for the GRAND REOPENING!.....around JANUARY 9, 2006!!!!!!

2006 Calendar..... SherylsGraphics

I am a firm believer in writing things down on a calendar and having it all right there in front of me to help keep track of things. I did get a sweet kitty calendar from Eric's mom this Christmas.
I will be hanging it up next to my computer area. The box area is sort of small for writing EVERYTHING that I tend to write down though. LOL

I did a search for "printable primitive calendar" and found this awesome site!
I have actually been to her site quite a few times but had forgotten that she offered this calendar feature. I think everyone needs to scoot over to her website and print of the calendar.
Its so awesome and PRIM!
Lots of space to write important details down and if you chose the "landscape" version, there is a NOTES section on the side! LOVE IT!
:)

Its my nieces fault! LOL

My oldest niece, Hannah, asked Santa to bring her a GameBoy and he did along with 2 games.
WELL! I have never played one before and had no clue they would turn out to be so much fun:)
She got a ScoobyDoo game that...well....I am horrid at! LOL The silly spiders kill me every time.
On the NEMO game she got though......much better. I can pick up pearls with no problem!LOL
I'd sneak upstairs and sit on the top step in the dark and play. heehee

A few days later, Eric drove some of my family back to Halifax so they could catch their flight back home to Virginia. While he was in Halifax............HE BOUGHT ME A GAMEBOY!!!!!!

Could he spoil me more???? I really highly doubt it! LOL
He also bought me The Hobbit game to go with it as he know what a huge fan of LoTR I am.

So now I'm going to be on the hunt for more games......oh I am going to have a might sore thumb!

Home for the Holidays

My whole family came home for this holidays this year and I have to say that over all......it was AMAZING! We ate food like there was never a scale invented! LOL
The joy of hearing the EXCITEMENT in my nieces voices was something I will treasure always.
They got to hear Santa outside their bedroom window and sleigh bells. There were sleigh tracks in the snow in the back yard even!
To sit with everyone Christmas day and just feel the excitement in the air was a blast. Lots of wonderful presents were exchanged and many moments of laughter too! heehee

HAPPY HOLIDAYS ALL!

A good smack to the head........

Can really cause way more problems then you could ever imagine!
When dad was involved in the car accident and got the concussion......he was told he'd have a headache and be a bit "off" for awhile.
Well the headache just never went away and he was always really dizzy when he'd first stand up from the sofa etc. He was going to the Dr for a check up and we suggested he ask to have a CatScan done. The next day he was sent to yarmouth for the scan. Really quite quick but we sure were not complaining.

The very next day, the DR called us and told us to get in touch with dad(he was out shopping with my grandfather) and have him get himself to Halifax! The scan had shown a large blood mass and he was sceduled for emergency brain surgury!

HOLY OL' FLIP OUT!
We run around and get him up there.......after running some more tests and a bunch of other stuff, they finally did the procedure. He had a large incision cut in his scalp and then a hole was drilled thru his skull. A draining tube was placed and the blood mass was drained.
There was so much blood that it had pushed my fathers brain to the other side of his skull!
He had the drain tube for a few days and then was stitched up and brought back home.

His stitches were removed yesterday and he's doing much better. He goes to see the "head" DRs again in Halifax at the end of January. Another scan will be taken then.

So needless to say....its been crazy around here.

THANK YOU for all the prayers and well wishes that have been sent to myself and my family:)

Seems whenever something crazy happens in my life....my writings stop.
That should be the time I am writing more and getting it all out.

Santa Craft with pinecones

Wouldn't this look amazing hanging outside on your front door to greet friends and family during the holidays? I just love the way this looks.

A small birch(or white barked tree) piece for the face. Take a piece of heavy cardboard and cut it in the shape of the beard. Take two small nails and nail it to the wood at the top. If it needs more nails..use them.

Take hot glue and LOTS of pinecones. Start placing the pinecones around the cardboard until it forms the look of the beard you see in the picture. Place 2 large pinecones as his mustache and 2 large ones for eyebrows as well. A bit of paint on the birch forms the face details for santa.(If you are lucky enough...look for a piece of wood where a branch has broken and that becomes his nose!)

A simple red hat is then placed on top. VOILA! SANTA!

Tooth Fairy fun

My oldest niece Hannah lost a tooth this week while they were here. It was quite loose when she arrived and she pulled and played with it till the other morning when it popped out and onto her tongue! LOL
She now has a gap right in the front and is beyond cute!
She wanted to know if she would be able to still get money for the tooth if she asked the tooth fairy if she could keep the tooth. Said it was her fave tooth as it was a front tooth. LOL

We wrote the Tooth Fairy a note asking to keep it and left it with the tooth.
Woke to squeals of delight as there was now a paper plate with sparkles all over it!!!!!!
The Tooth fairy had left foot prints behind as well and a note in the most beautiful script handwriting that said she was allowed to keep this ONE! LOL

We ended up having to take the plate of sparkle dust all the way to the hospital to show great Gramma! LOL It was quite the day.

Well once again there has been a lapse in my blog....but that is because of family issues.
I think Angels were working over time looking after my family. First the 18 wheeler hit my father and Nannie. That following Monday my Gram(the one that lives with us) had to be rushed by ambulance to the hospital. Her blood calcium levels were lethal and she came beyond close to dying. They have run numerous tests and pumped her full of so many different medicines. She is doing much much better. She has been in Yarmouth which is over an hour away. She moves Monday to Digby and we'll be able to see her every day as its only 15 minutes away.
She should spend about 4 days there and then return home.

Angels watched over my family

My father was on his way to Annapolis to take his mother(She is 90) to the hospital for some blood work and some Xrays. There is road construction happening all over the place down this way.
They were stopped at some construction with about 3-4 cars ahead of them. Dad looks up in his rear view mirror and sees an 18 Wheeler heading towards them. He placed his 4 way blinkers on and looked again....it was NOT slowing down!
He attempted to move the car a bit to the right but it was way too late.........

The 18 Wheeler hit them and sent them across the road and into a ditch. When they awoke....right behind Nannie's seat was the grill of the truck! They are so beyond lucky to be alive!
Dad was able to get out of the car. He suffered some scratches and cuts to his arms and head. He has a concussion. He was released from the hospital yesterday. He woke this morning to some dizziness so we took him back. His shoulder and neck are very tender and sore as well. We are just going to watch him carefully now.

Nannie is alright as well....... they had to use the Jaws of Life to remove her from the car. That was pretty scary! She has a horrid bump on her forehead that is huge and bruised. Her whole arm and shoulder is black and blue and her hand. Neither suffered any broken bones or major injuries of that nature!

Grampie usually makes these trips with them but that morning opted to stay at home and wait. He'd go shopping with dad afterwards. THANK GOODNESS!
If he had been with them, he'd have been sitting right behind Nannie and been where the grill of the truck was!

Angels watched over my family yesterday!
Please.....go HUG your family and tell them you LOVE THEM!

SMELL THAT???? Aromatic herbs like rosemary, cinnamon, lavender can keep clothing and shoes smelling fresh. Cedar can even help protect woolens from moth damage.
**For your in your dresser, spoon a small amount of herbs into a beautiful old handkerchief, gather the ends, and tie with ribbon or twine. You can even hang this in your closet from a hanger!

When it’s kept in an attractive glass bottle, dishwashing liquid doesn’t have to be hidden under the sink. Decorative bottles and pour spouts are available at most housewares stores; vintage bottles work well too, as long as they are perfectly clean. Simply fill the bottle with dishwashing liquid, and top it with the spout. So much more pretty sitting next to the sink!

and this time I'm not talking about the autumn leaves! LOL
I am a huge fan of music and always have something playing on either my cd player or computer.
Right now.......the cd being played over and over is NICKELBACK.

These Canadian boys have it going on and I just love them!
I think I know all the words to their song "photograph"! LOL

Now I'm not talking...."tossing your head up and down crunchy/can't make out the lyrics thru the electric guitar"........just good old fashioned rock and roll crunch sound.

All my sandles have been boxed away till next summer......My fave boots come out this time of the year! heehee

John William Waterhouse

John William Waterhouse (1849-1917)

"Although often classified as a Pre-raphaelite for his style and themes, Waterhouse is truly a Neo-Classic painter. Some of Waterhouse's earlier works were focused on Italian themes and scenery, reflecting his love for his birth place. Later on, his works picked up the styles and classical themes of Pre-raphaelites such as Alma-Tadema and Frederick Leighton. Waterhouse went on to paint well over 200 paintings depicting classical mythogolgy, historical and literary subjects, particularly those of Roman mythology and classic English poets such as Keats and Tennyson. Femme fatale is a common theme in his works, as most are of beautiful elegaic women and of many men are victims."

I adore looking at this man's paintings and creativity. I find the imagery somehow touches something within me. I wanted to share in hopes that maybe it would touch something within one of you.

A Lost Art ..........

A handwritten letter is becoming more and more a lost art form.
Thought I'd share some of my fave simple ways to make them special and fun again.

Scented ink can add a delicate hint of "you" to your personal correspondence, a fragrance that will hit the air as soon as the envelope is opened and get the person thinking of you as they read your words.

Some different ways to scent ink!

~~
Ingredients
1/2 oz (15g) dried lavender flowers
6 tbsp water
1 small bottle ink

Directions
Crush the lavender and put into a small saucepan along with the water.
Bring to a boil. Simmer for about 30 minutes or until
there's about 2 tablespoons brown, opaque liquid remaining.
Strain well, pressing down hard.
Mix the liquid with the ink.
Keep the bottle of ink in the fridge to last longer.
Bring it to almost room temperature before writing with.
Good for a few months.

~~
Simply add a couple drops of your favorite
essential oil or oil blend to each milliliter of ink
(that's about 30 drops per ounce).
When the letter is folded and sealed,
the scent will intensify in the envelope.

~~
Scented inks are best used with calligraphy pens or fountain pens of course.
If you don't wish to take that up as a form of writing.....you can always scent your paper
instead!

The easiest way of sending a scent is to simply put a drop of essential oil on the corner of your writing paper. Be careful not to get it on the ink, though, or it may run.
Another method is to thoroughly scent your entire box of stationery before you even begin writing.
Choose a paper or material that is absorbent-blotting paper, tissue, cotton or gauze, for example. Put it into one-inch squares and place one or two drops of your favorite oil or oil blend on each square. Place the squares in different places in your box of stationery (put your envelopes in the box too), between the papers. Close the box and leave for a day or two - to allow the fragrance to penetrate the pages - before using.

Alter the scents for the moods you wish to express in your notes!
Holiday scents!
Springtime florals!
Autumn and pumpkin pies!
Oh you will have so much fun making these and your friends will get an added bonus when you write them.

Hand writing letters is quickly becoming a lost art. Lets bring it back!

Speaking of mail.....ENVELOPES

I know you aren't going to want to admit this.....but you know you have way too many catalogues and magazines laying around the house, right?! Sit down and go thru them.
Keep what you really really need to have.
NO! That isn't ALL OF THEM!

Now with what is left....let's get creative and have some fun!
Some magazines are a bit tougher to use because they have text all over. But with some time and a good eye, you'll be spotting great pieces to use to create some cool funky envelopes.
(I use Country Living alot! and even old calendars!)

Take a regular envelope and open it all up. You are going to use this to make a template.
Trace it carefully onto a thick piece of cardboard.
Cut it out and score the edges where it will need to be folded back up.

You have gone thru the magazines and found some fantastic pictures to use.
Take your template and trace onto the BACK of the image you want.
Carefully cut the envelope out and score the edges.
You can use a good quality glue stick or even double sided tape to close the envelope.

Go to your local Staples store or such and pick up some white labels.
Attach this in the center of your envelope to write the address on and
VOILA!

FUN AND EXCITING MAIL FOR FRIENDS TO RECIEVE!

LOL We had talked about this swimming hole before but none of them had ever been.So off we went and once we arrived and I felt the sun beating down....in I went too! Even though I didn't have my bathingsuit! heehee Just wore my shorts and shirt in.

The water was NOT near as cold as I thought it would be. We swam for about an hour and then headed home. Very refreshing!

Inside the shop.........

There were a few more inside the shop that were really nice. The smell of leather is almost intoxicating! LOL I loved the paint job on the one in the background....when the paint was wet, plastic wrap was laid on and then peeled away for the effect!
This red one was real sharp looking too.
I love going to Sean's shop.....its so cool! I always seem to see something different each time I go there. I'll have to get looking thru the books and see what can be ordered up for me! heehee

Smell the leather! S&S Custom Cycle

Spent the weekend over to our friends place. The log cabin house that I already blogged about. The gang came down from Halifax and we had a great fire in the pit. Roasted marshmallows and the works. A great time by all.
Sean runs a Harley Shop so thought we'd take some pics of the bikes that were around this weekend. I didn't get a chance to ask Sean for a ride(as it was crazy all that we were jamming into a few days!) but I will before they are all put away for the winter.

Weekend craft for you all!

I think this makes such a great decoration for the upcoming season! Take a bucket and spray paint it orange. Take some black paint and give him a JOL face!

Plant a great big array of fall flowers like mums that come in such wonderful fall colors. Set him on your doorstep and smile every time you see him!

Moonbeams and dreaming....

Moonbeams and dreams! This little lady can be found on my website www.thrutheatticdoor.com
and I am excited to say there is going to be a small series of them!

I was sent this wonderful gold fabric in a swap and I have always known I wanted to create moons with it. Just couldn't figure out the rest of the creation!

She was inspired by a tiny ornie made for me by a friend(Thank you Sarah!). I drew her out and created her like a small version of the dolls I do now.
It was tough! She is only 8 inches.

I LOVE how she turned out though!
Like I mentioned....a few more in this "moon beam series"..... a hint for the next one....well...it is a bewitching season soon!

Prim&Slim....

Been doing this set of exercises with the exercise ball and let me tell you....my abs are felling it!
Give it a try....you'll see the difference!
(even if you don't own an exercise ball...use a kids beach ball or basketball!)

Hold the ball with the side of your legs and ankles.
Reach up and touch the ball. I try to do this 20 times.

We didn't watch alot of tv but some shows we tried not to miss. CSI being one of those shows. Fou was walking around crying and talking to himself.(He's a very chatty cat!)

I told him to get up on the sofa and shhh cause we were getting ready to watch tv. He jumped right up next to Eric JUST LIKE THIS and stayed for the whole hour!

I got moving things around my room today including my bullentin boards. Looked at my thumb tacks and thought...I am going to have some fun with those. Some old marbles and some strong hotglue....presto! You could glue anything to the tack though...think of the fun you could have!

New tacks that are much more fun!
